Fortune on privacy ..

Sorry, couldn't resist. This one did make me smile ..

"Every Solidarity center had piles and piles of paper .... everyone was
eating paper and a policeman was at the door. Now all you have to do is
bend a disk."
- an anonymous member of the outlawed Polish trade union, Solidarity,
commenting on the benefits of using computers in support of their movement

I wonder about the problems of eating those paper-based blu-ray disks that people occasionally talk about. In any case, it's one hell of a lot of roughage..

A new email signature?

Perhaps it is time to update my email signature..

... Any resemblance between the above views and those of my employer,
my terminal, or the view out my window are purely coincidental. Any
resemblance between the above and my own views is non-deterministic. The
question of the existence of views in the absence of anyone to hold them
is left as an exercise for the reader. The question of the existence of
the reader is left as an exercise for the second god coefficient. (A
discussion of non-orthogonal, non-integral polytheism is beyond the scope
of this article.)

1984 and rocket stoves ..

I saw this 1984 cover being mentioned on another journal, and I thought it was interesting. I can't remember the woman's name, but she doesn't quite look as I imagined. Cool though.

Also, I want to make a twig burning stove: Rocket stove. Maybe the mad farmer who owns the field where I live will let me.

Hypocrites!!

Okay, I'm not a Christian, so maybe I'm missing something here, but after all the uproar about Dr Jeffery John, who had to step down from his nomination as the Bishop of Reading (and may face the same with regard to his new post), this newest appointment seems rather hypocritical to me:

Shouldn't the Church of England be more concerned by the appointment of a bishop who has divorced than the appointment of a bishop who is gay (and celibate, I might add - how many of us could willingly do that long term?).

I am hoping to go see the lunar eclipse tonight.  There should be a good view from twerton roundhill, assuming it isn't cloudy.  I think I shall bring tea and biscuits with me, make it a sort of picnic-type job.

An image showing the various stages of a lunar eclipse as it progresses from partial to full to partial eclipse again.

I think that this is a little inaccurate (probably because I'm not (in my opinion) an enemy of the Christian church), though amusing for a work avoidance activity.
